Google removed *.dwg support from free Sketchup.

If you are like me, and like your software updated to the latest version, and click as soon as you see an update window. Google Sketchup 7.1 came with a little unpleasant surprise and no prior alert. Google decided for some reason to remove the support for importing DWG files in this version of their software.

They are only going to support the import of that particular type of file in the Professional Version. Scavenging through the web for a solution and to be honest, an explanation, I found this. According to their post in SketchUpdate blog the reason lies in supporting another type of exchange file, in this case COLLADA.

Fortunately for some of us who still need in school to import from time to time a dwg file, there is a temporary solution for the problem. But in the next update of Google Skethcup it wont be supported anymore. Ill think more when clicking that update button the next time.
